Camp Gear List

The following is a list of personal items you will need to have with you on camp.
Please make sure ALL gear is clearly named. If you do not have some of the items listed see if you can borrow them from someone else. Try and avoid going out and buying stuff. It shouldn’t be necessary. The school does hire out some wet weather gear, also visit www.adventuregearhire.co.nz.

Food
x 1Cut Lunch and drink for day 1. Reusable Lunch box/Drink Bottle ( You will be using this throughout the week)
1x Packet of biscuits or Home baking plus 1 x tin of fruit to go towards breakfast/morning/afternoon teas during the week. (Hand in to Mrs Parker week before camp)
x Lollies/sweets (not in individual wrappers). What Mrs Parker finds, or finds evidence of...she gets to eat!

Clothing
x 5-6 pairs of socks. Need to be comfortable for walking in
x 1 pair of shoes for tramping. Can be runners as long as they have a good tread and lace up well. Trail shoes or boots are fine.
x 2-3 pairs of shoes for use around the camping ground. Sandals/scuffs are ok for this, however you need to have at least one pair which is going to keep your feet warm and dry. It is also sensible to have a pair of shoes you can get wet. i.e.. For Kayaking/Ski Biscuiting etc.
x 5-6 changes of underwear (at least)
x 2-3 shirts. Best to have a selection for warm/cold weather conditions
x 2-3 polyprop tops (or warm singlets)
x 2-3 Woolen jerseys. Cotton tops are not good enough. A Polar Fleece is a good alternative
x 2-3 pairs of shorts. One pair suitable for tramping in
x 1 pair of togs. If you have a wetsuit I suggest you bring it. A swimming cap is also a good idea, especially if considering doing the deep water swim.
x 2-3 pairs of long pants. Jeans are ok around the camp ground but you will not be allowed to tramp in them.
x 1 pair of gloves ( To show to Mrs Parker before camp)
x 1 woolen hat/beanie (To show Mrs Parker before camp)
x 1 Sun hat
x 1 warm jacket for around the camp site
x1 water proof jacket (To show to Mrs Parker before camp)
x Pyjamas
x Several Handkerchiefs

Miscellaneous
x 1 Pack for tramping. (A school bag is ok provided it has adjustable straps and fits well on the back)
x 1 warm Sleeping bag and Pillow case
x 1  Mug for drinking Milo etc.  Other eating utensils are provided by the Facility however if you wish to bring your own plates, knives forks etc you can do so. Please have all clearly named using a vivid  marker
x 1 pair of sunglasses
x 1 extra blanket if likely to feel the cold at night
x 1-2 large plastic bags to put washing in. ( Rubbish bags are good for this)
x 2 Tea Towel for drying dishes with. (Make sure it is clearly named)
x Pencil case & Camp Diary
x 1 Torch
x Any medication you need with you. NB. Asthma inhalers should be kept with you. Medication you only require in case of emergency should be given to Mr Woods.
x Insect repellant
x Toilet gear/ Soap, Toothbrush, Toothpaste, etc
x 2 Bath Towels

Optional
Digital Camera/Binoculars/Fishing Rod. (You must have a trout fishing licence)
Personal sports equipment. (We will be taking a class set with us)/Goggles/Fins etc for swimming
Books/Board games/cards to keep you amused during “down time”. (We will be taking some of our class boardgames/cards with us)/Personal First Aid Kit  (We will be taking several school kits with us)

Do Not Bring
Money/Valuable items such as expensive jewellery/Pocket Knives/Matches/Fireworks/Cellphone/ Computer games/ Game boys/IPods etc.  In the case of an emergency Mrs Parker will contact your parents with her phone. We will be taking our class camera with us and you will be able to use this. Common sense applies in this area. If in doubt, ask.

Halloween Disaster

October 31st, Halloween finally, my brother and I were SO excited! 4:00, 5:00, 6:00 finally 7:00.  We quickly put on our costumes on I was a ghost and he was a devil.  We grabbed our trick-or-treat bags and ran outside, 1st house rocks, 2nd house lollies until it came to about the 30th house yay more lollies!  We carried on, and then the sky slowly got darker and we started to hear strange noises, I look beside me and my brother was gone oh no where has he gone?  Then a  hand grabs me I scream drop my candy and run oh no how can this be happening!

Boom!

I was sitting in my room doing my homework like any other day, but today wasn't like any other day, but of course I didn't know that until, BOOM, a big bright light flickered on and off in a second. For a start I thought I might have been seeing things, but then it went off again, I was starting to get scared. But I continued to do my homework. Then unexpectedly it went off again. Now I was really scared, so I ran out to mum and told her about the light, but no surprise she didn't believe me. Then, BOOM. But this time it wasn't the light...

The storm?

As I walk home from school It begins to rain, ahh! Im going to get soaked I think to my self! About 10 minuites later I hear thunder, I look up and then I saw a bright light …. That’s not thunder? A big spaceship levitates over me. I start to run but get lifted off my feet by something. Just like in the movies I say!? Im in a room that’s pitch black then I fall into deep sleep after something pinches me. Im in my bed, at my house,  in my pajamas? I must have been dreaming, but then I saw a bright light outside oh no!.

Lights out

The last thing I can remember was cashing out money from the bank, I can’t remember exactly how much but once I got my money, it was lights out. So here I am, sitting on a chair seems fine and that’s what you’d think but the twist was I was tied up. As soon as I woke up a stick hit my head but this time it wasn’t a black out it was white and I couldn’t wake up. I felt a slight pinch on my nose as I now couldn’t breathe properly there was no chance of survival.

The dream....

I’M DREAMING, IT’S WEIRD, I DREAM ALOT, EVERY NIGHT, BUT NEVER ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS. I’M DREAMING ABOUT A BRIGHT LIGHT IN MY WARDROBE FLASHING CONTINUOUSLY AT ME, IT WONT STOP. THE FLASHING IS LIKE A RAINBOW, CHANGING FROM RED-ORANGE-YELLOW-GREEN-BLUE AND PURPLE.
I WAKE IN FRIGHT FORM THE FLASHING, AS I REACH TO TURN THE LIGHT ON I LOOK ACROSS THE ROOM. IT’S COMING FROM MY WARDROBE, THE RAINBOW FLASHING. I GET UP AND MOVE CLOSER, I REACH FOR THE HANDLE AND PULL IT OPEN, THE LIGHTS SWALLOW ME UP, THEN I’M GONE.

BY BRYLEE

Suddenly, I saw a light

I opened my eyes, and there was an acheing pain im my mouth. My vision was blurred so i could not see much but the shining light above my head. But then all of a sudden the light was taken away, and moments later a woman in a white coat stood beside me."I took out two teeth and put in a filling," she said."She is not going to remember much but it will wear off in about an hour". My eyes felt heavy and i couldnt hear much, but a few moments later i drifted off to sleep.

Book 3-way conference times (3 WAY CONFERENCES (Monday 15 and Wednesday 17 April)
In the last week of this term we are conducting 3 Way Conferences (10 minutes duration) in your child’s classroom. The students, teacher and parent/caregiver meet to discuss progress to date, set learning goals and share other relevant information. We encourage your attendance. Teachers will make contact with you if you don’t make a request for a conference to arrange an alternative time. This process is a significant way of supporting your child’s learning and achievement. If caring for younger children is preventing you from attending we encourage you to bring them along if you are unable to organise alternative supervision.
(Please note due to camp and other commitments rooms 7, 19 and 20 will be holding interviews on alternative dates – the classroom teacher will inform you in their class newsletter.  Please use the booking code as listed below.)

We are booking interviews online through the School Interview website.  This way gives more flexibility to choose a time that suits you and if you have more than one child it will be easier to get interview times closer together.  You will also have the opportunity to meet with any of our specialist staff, deputy principals or principal as required.

Bookings are now open at www.schoolinterviews.co.nz. The event code is QUUES.  Once logged in you enter your name, child’s name and email address. Then select the teacher/s that you wish to meet with and then select the time.  When you have finished your interview a timetable will be emailed to you.  You can return to the site and change your interview whenever you want.

‘Me Project’

You are to complete a project about yourself.  The purpose of this project is to give me a little insight about you – what you like to do both inside and outside school as well as finding out what aspirations you have.  I will obviously be looking at your writing style as well – how you portray your feelings and thoughts onto paper.

Your project may be typed or hand written and must take the form of a bound project.

You should have the following information:

·      My family…
·      The best thing about me is…
·      What I’d most like to have is…
·      Lately I learned…
·      One thing I’d like you to know about me is…
·      The best present I ever received was…
·      The most dangerous thing I have ever done is…
·      If I could be anyone in the world it would be…
·      One goal I have for the future

For each of the above questions, I would be expecting at least half a page of typed information (size 14) or three quarters of a page hand written.

Make sure you look at the ‘guiding information’ sheet attached, this will give you an outline on how to gain a score within the higher range.

You will have access to our three computers and printers within the classroom if you wish along with other computers in the library after school time. Due date for your project is FRIDAY 12th April, 2.45pm  (week10) You may obviously hand it in earlier if you wish.
